Just wondering a couple things. This is for you teens, some questions regarding peer pressure. Has your view of peer pressure changed since we have discussed it the past two weeks and if so how.? Is there any more questions or thoughts that you all have in regards to peer pressure? How clear is this whole peer pressure thing in your minds? I mean like do you feel that you have a good understanding of the causes of peer pressure and the way that we are to battle this beast? Looking forward to your thoughts.

My view of peer pressure hasn't really changed, I knew allot of that stuff about peer pressure becuase my mom taught it in her ss class and she's helped me at home with things dealing with peer pressure but it wasn't really on my mind. I wasn't convicted of me falling into it becuase I wasn't thinking about it. So that's mainly where this has helped me deal with peer pressure and you guys also helped me understand more about the roots of the problem. I feel pretty sure that I'm equiped to deal with peer pressure and I have a better understanding of what it really is.
Well the reason i was asking is cause i am not fully clear on the whole cause and effect of peer pressure and how we battle it best. think we might continue on the topic one more week. If you guys get a chance think through some strategies that have worked for you in fighting against peer pressure. or what you think might work.
I'm curious what role does "positive" peer pressure plays in our lives? I mean, at what level does Christ intend for us to use His body (i.e., the church) to help us in this struggle? This might be another side of the issue.
I think the chuch can have both a bad and a good peer pressure. The bad or negative would be legalism (the motivation to do things other than "from faith" or the motivation to do things in order to gain acceptance with God) and even more subtle than that would be the pressure to do things to be liked or respected by people in the church.
Now for the positive. I think this is key and what i would like us to be focusing on in the future. Like in heb.3:13 and 10:24 we need to be stiring each other up and exhorting each other regularly. I have an idea what this looks like but want to save it for sunday. What do you guys think?
Thanks Michael for the idea.
Here is that verse I was talking about. My Dad was reading it at dinner one night, and I thought that it applied to what we were talking about in s. school.
Isaiah 51:12-16
“I, I am he who comforts you; who are you that you are afraid of man who dies, of the son of man who is made like grass, and have forgotten the Lord your Maker, who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth, and you fear continually all the day because of the wrath of the oppressor, when he sets himself to destroy? And where is the wrath of the oppressor? He who is bowed down shall speedily be released; he shall not die and go down to the pit, neither shall his bread be lacking. I am the Lord your God, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar- the Lord of Hosts is my name. And I have put my words in your mouth and covered you in the shadow of my hand, establishing the heavens and laying the foundations of the earth, and saying to Zion, you are my people.’”
I just thought that was really good, especially verses 12 and 13.
“’I, I am the Lord who comforts you; who are you that you are afraid of man who dies, of the son of man who is made like grass, and have forgotten the Lord your Maker, who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth, and you fear continually all the day because of the oppressor, when he sets himself to destroy? And where is the wrath of the oppressor?” Isaiah 51:12-13
